A tad bit of history…

It is intriguing to note that 150 years ago--

Sarcoidosis was thought to be primarily associated with lung and skin conditions. However, by the twentieth century, it had become clear that sarcoidosis is a complex, chronic disorder capable of affecting multiple bodily systems.

Sarcoidosis is defined as an inflammatory disorder. The understanding of this condition has evolved, revealing that its implications extend far beyond initial perceptions of a primarily pulmonary issue.

The documentation of sarcoidosis spans over 150 years, with the condition first being described by British dermatologist Jonathan Hutchinson between 1869-1877. Initially viewed as a dermatological condition, further research revealed it to be a complex, chronic, granulomatous disease impacting multiple systems. The work of pioneering clinicians Boeck and Besnier in the early 20th century significantly contributed to the understanding of sarcoidosis characteristics.
